CVBBA Conferences & Events

Thrive in ’25: A Record-Setting CVBBA Conference
The CVBBA’s Thrive in ’25 Conference, held September 23–25, 2025, delivered one of our most successful events to date. With record-breaking attendance, exceptional sponsor participation, and an expanded lineup of 28+ educational sessions and IBBA courses, the conference offered unmatched value for business brokers and deal partners across the Carolinas and Virginia
Our keynote speakers provided fresh inspiration – Sonya Waddell offered sharp economic insights, and Larry Long Jr. delivered the motivational spark to “Jolt!” our members into action.
Trivia Night brought a fun sense of camaraderie, and comedian Andy Forrester kept the momentum high with plenty of laughter. It all came together to create a conference that educated, inspired, and connected our members for success.
We extend our gratitude to our sponsors, Board of Directors, committees, and attendees – your dedication made this event a success.
Building on the success of the 2025 conference, we’re excited to bring everyone together again in 2026 for another exceptional conference experience. Save the date: September 22–24, 2026, at the same great location – Embassy Suites, Cary, North Carolina.

Stop playing the hero in a failing deal and start playing the expert who never lets the drama into the room in the first place.
Every experienced broker has a story: the deal that turned into a soap opera, the liability they didn’t see coming, the moment they realized they’d wandered into legal territory without a map. Drama has a way of inserting itself into deals. The good news? Most of it is completely avoidable.
Join host Colette Kemp, and two of the sharpest transactional attorneys in the business, Tad Cook and Lisa Crandall of PLG Law, for a masterclass designed specifically for business brokers who want to keep their deals clean, their clients protected, and their names off the wrong kind of paperwork.
With a combined track record spanning M&A, securities, debt financing, franchising, and business succession across multiple states, Tad and Lisa have seen what goes wrong, and more importantly, they know exactly where brokers unknowingly create problems while trying to do the right thing.
In this session, you’ll learn:
- – Where brokers most commonly cross legal lines without realizing it
- – How to recognize the early warning signs that a deal is headed for drama
- – What you should, and absolutely should not, be doing to protect yourself and your clients
- – How to build a cleaner process from the first conversation
- – Drama doesn’t announce itself. That’s the whole problem.
